We are all the same even if we are into different bodies. When I am talking about be "the same" I am thinking about having the same functional organs inside of our bodies. The only difference is the skin layer which cover that all system. Because of it we have to think in a critical way and not in a subjective way. The first time I have learnt and I heard about why and how to think critically was four years ago. It was when I started the college during my first semester as a freshman at St Cloud State University in an introduction to Philosophy class.
I believe critical thinking is a reasoning process reflecting on ideas acting and decisions in intellectuals experience. It is thinking by being rational.
Many people have they own way to define this concept, however, all definition of critical thinking have to be related at a certain point. As Kerry S. Walters says in his book entitled " the journal of Higher education":
"Critical Thinking is a technique that schools students in the rational justification of beliefs by providing a set of rules with which to analyse propositional arguments."
Thinking with rationality follow a method and strategy which starts by a step and follow others as well. IM 204 Research Strategies will help us getting this methods by teaching us the first step which is to look for sources and then compare and contrast what are found, follow a choice among the best which will help to argue and dispute our opinion. On other hand, learn how to think.
Hi Carene,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post. Critical thinking definitely involves reasoning, as well as other skills and processes.
Can you define what "being rational" would be?
Kerry Walters addresses one aspect of critical thinking--setting of rules to analyze arguments. In IM 204 you will learn how to evaluate resources for bias, and how to evaluate evidence that supports research, as well as a bit of troubleshooting/problem solving. It will be fun!
